According to the Roanoke Times, Destiny Hodge, a sixteen year old girl from Rocky Mount, Virginia was killed yesterday when the 1989 Ford she was riding in went off of the left side of U.S. 220, struck a guardrail and then hit a tree.
The vehicle was being driven by a 21 year old male, Elijah Derrick Rorrer from Salem. He is facing life-threatening injuries and was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia.
The Roanoke Times reported that both people involved in the accident were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
As of this posting, it is not clear what caused the accident that killed Destiny Hodge. Many single car accidents are caused by excessive speed and/or over correction. Inexperienced drivers often exhibit these driving behaviors and they and their passengers suffer serious consequences for it.
Having worked numerous wrongful death cases during the course of my nearly thirty year career practicing personal injury law in Virginia, I can tell you that wrongful death cases with no known cause of the accident are often complicated and need an experienced attorney to get the maximum amount of compensation owed to the family of the wrongful death victim.
My heartfelt condolences go out to the family of this young girl. I have two children, myself, and I cannot imagine the amount of grief that accompanies the loss of a child.
