It was previously reported that the New England Compound Center in Framingham, Massachusetts was found to have unsanitary conditions in areas of the laboratory that were supposed to be sterile.
The product linked to the deadly outbreak that has killed 2 people in Virginia and sickened 50 others is preservative-free methylprednisolone acetate, which was used as injectable medication.
Additionally, the FDA is recommending that other products produced and distributed by the NECC not be used. The FDA is providing a complete list of products from the NECC. The list, which is quite extensive with about 1200 products.
The FDA is currently investigating 2 cases of infection that have occured but are not linked to the injectable product named above. Those investigations are on-going and have not been definitively linked to the NECC.
