Super Bowl Sunday has become synonymous with drinking, social gathering and overeating. But whether you’re interested in the game or just the commercials, be sure to drink responsibly when watching the game.
When we engage in other activities such as TV viewing when consuming food or alcohol, studies show that we are more apt to overindulge and be less vigilant about how much we are eating and drinking.
This can be a dangerous combination for anyone who may need to be on the road after the big game.
Tips for Limiting Alcohol Intake:
- Know Your Friends: Avoid drinking with people who encourage binge drinking or people who are likely to leave you stranded at a bar.
- Designate a Driver: Before the first drink is served, have a plan for getting home safely.
- Avoid Drinking Alcohol and Prescription Medications: Be sure to check all prescription and over- the -counter labels for warnings about interaction with alcohol consumption.
- Sip Your Drink: Sipping drinks will decrease your overall consumption.
- Eat Food When You Drink: Eating foods high in protein will slow down absorption. Avoid salty foods that will make you thirsty. Alternate alcoholic drinks with water.
