Toyota is busy yet again making headlines with another product recall affecting 2.34 million cars in the U.S. Toyota announced today that it is recalling several models for four different defects.
The first defect involves a Spiral Cable Issue. Toyota has said that cable could be damaged when the steering wheel is turned, and that could result in the airbag not activating after a crash. The models produced from 2004-2010 involved in the recall for the faulty cable are:
- RAV4,
- Corolla,
- Matrix,
- Yaris,
- Yaris Sedan,
- Highlander,
- Tacoma
- Land Cruiser Prado
- Camrys assembled in Australia
- General Motors’ Pontiac Vibe
The second defect are issues with faulty seat rails. Models produced from 2005-2010 affected by this recall are:
- Certain Scion xD
- Urban Cruiser
- Yaris and Yaris Sedan
The other three defects included a faulty engine starter, a faulty windshield wiper motor, and a defective steering column bracket. Toyota is aware of two fires related to the defective engine starter. These problems were only identified in cars sold outside the U.S. The engine starter recall is not related to the recent ignition switch recall from General Motors.
