Sad news out of Franklin County, VA today. Seventy-year old, Thomas Preston Scott was riding a lawnmower when he was stuck by a 2004 Honda Odyssey driven by a 72 year old woman. Investigators at the scene of the accident believe that the Honda ran off the left side of the roadway before hitting the victim while he was riding his lawnmower.
Unfortunately, accidents such as these are not as rare as you might think. Just months ago, I settled a case for a woman struck by a vehicle while riding her lawnmower. The driver in that accident was drunk. As you might imagine, my client was severely injured in the accident.
It is possible that today’s accident was caused by distracted driving, falling asleep or other factors that impaired the driver’s ability to maintain control of her vehicle. As of the time of this posting the crash is still under investigation.
Today’s accident is a tragic wrongful death. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family tonight.
