Local governments are warning citizens to be prepared for below average temperatures as winter storm Octavia moves into the area. The heaviest snowfall is expected tonight with below freezing temperatures and high winds continuing for the rest of the week.

Roanoke City residents are also advised to:
• Call 211 for information on the status of road conditions or to report a street that needs to be plowed.
• To report power outages, call AEP at 800-956-4237.
• To report problems with water mains in city streets, contact the Western Virginia Water Authority at 853-5700.
• Calls to 9-1-1 should be reserved for emergency situations only.
As of this posting, I-81 South near Ironto is blocked by a tractor trailer accident and an accident near I-581 North is slowing traffic near the Berglund Center.
