Sadly, 21 month old, Kayden Curtis died from injuries she sustained in a fire. Two other children remain in critical condition.
The caregiver, Doris Lee, was watching 7 children under the age of 5 in her unlicensed in-home day care. Ms. Lee also failed to apply for a business license. Both would have required inspections of her in home day care by fire officials.
Officials are still conducting an investigation as to the exact cause of the fire. The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen. There were no fire extinguishers in the home.
Members of the Curtis Family have set up a fundraising site to help the family with medical bills. A link to the site can be found in today’s Roanoke Times article.
