Labor Day has long time been associated with hot, sunny days at the lake, backyard picnics and one last taste of an ice cold brew.
The holiday itself, which dates back to the 1800’s, is meant to honor the dignity of work itself. It is an effort to recognize all of the laborers past and present who made sacrifices to make the United States the country it is today.
While it is often associated with unions and therefore, workplace conflict, safety violations, and corporate greed – it was never meant to be. So in the spirit of which the holiday was intended, I urge everyone to take a break, thank someone who labors and celebrate the work itself.
While celebrating, please remember that Labor Day is ranked in the top 5 holidays for DUI fatalities. Play it safe this Monday and be responsible if you drink.
