In 2012, 211 people died in DUI related car accidents in Virginia. Twenty-five of those fatalities involved people under the age of 21.
A drunken driver kills someone in the United States every 40 minutes.
In 2013, there were over 27,000 arrests for DUI.
Avoid becoming a reason for a DUI crash by rethinking your drinking on New Years Eve:
1) If you plan to drink outside of your home, use a designated driver.
2) A designated driver is not the person who has had the least amount of drinks, it is the person who has had NO alcoholic drinks.
3) Remember that alcohol and drowsiness both impair your ability to operate a motor vehicle safely.
4) Most highway fatalities occur between the hours of 12:00am and 3:00 am. Plan to be home before the clock strikes midnight.
5) Be a responsible host, offer a wide variety of non-alcoholic drinks and monitor drinking. Make arrangements for friends to stay overnight or for a safe way home.
6) Caffeine + Alcohol does not equal sobriety.
