A miner was killed yesterday by a falling rock in Deep Mine #41 in McClure, VA yesterday. It is believed that David Brummitte was conducting an examination of the mine when he was struck by a falling rock. No one witnessed the accident. Read more about the accident at www.roanoke.com.
According to the MSHA, Mine Safety Health Administration, roof and rib failure injured 265 miners in 2013 and 377 in 2012. Over half of these accidents occurred during the summer months, June- September, when materials are prone to excessive moisture.
