Tragic news was reported today by Channel 10. On Saturday night, Dakota Justice, a 21 year old from Hillsville was killed when the 2008 Ford Focus he was traveling in ran off the left side of the road, overturned and hit several trees.
The vehicle was being driven by another young man, Timothy Davis of Dugspur. Davis and Justice were both ejected from the vehicle. Justice died at the scene and Davis was transferred to the hospital with serious life threatening injuries.
Police reported that neither driver nor passenger were wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Police have not stated if speed was a factor of the crash. It is also unclear if alcohol or distracted driving contributed to the fatal accident.
Serious injuries and wrongful death are common injuries when vehicles overturn. Sadly, paralysis and TBI are more common due to the likelihood of a blow to the head, neck, or spine.
