With Spring weather finally here, I know that we will see more and more bikers out enjoying our beautiful Virginia roadways. Here are 6 tips for beginner bikers ready to take on the sport:
- Take a Motorcycle Safety Course. Virginia Western Community College offers a spring course.
- Get the Right Gear. Helmets, Pants, Jacket- You get the picture.
- Start small and comfortable. This applies to your bike and your route. Choose a bike that you can handle easily and take short rides in the beginning.
- Avoid “Watch Me” moments. In other words, no showing off for your friends.
- Do watch for trash and other objects on the roadway.
- Assume the worst will happen and be prepared for it. Cars will pull out in front of you. Your bike will get tripped up on road debris. Don’t assume other drivers see you.
