We’ve heard a lot on the news lately about the dangers of texting while driving. While its true that texting while driving a motor vehicle is a dangerous activity, it is not the only kind of distracted driving that is occuring on our roads these days.
There are three types of distracted driving behaviors:
-Visual Distraction: Taking your eyes off of the road.
-Manual: Taking your hands off of the wheel.
and
-Cognitive: Taking your mind off of driving.
These behaviors can include things like talking on a cell phone, reading a map, operating a GPS device and eating.
In 2009, more than 5400 people were killed in accidents where distracted driving occured. For more statistics and information on distracted driving visit the CDC website.
